Frequently Asked Questions:

How old do I have to be to begin driving school?

You may begin at 15 years old if you are enrolled in a class. We will issue a waiver to you which is proof of your enrollment. You will then take it to the Department of Licensing and they will issue a learner's permit to you.

What if I'm 15 1/2, years old?

If you are 15 1/2, you may get your learner's permit without a waiver, but you will have to take and pass the 25 question knowledge test to get your permit. However, if you wait until you join a class and get the waiver you have the option of getting your permit without taking the test now. You will have to take and pass the test when you get your driver's license.

When can I get the waiver?

Waivers are issued the first day of class. However, with a minimum down payment of $100, you can get the waiver within 10 days of the class start date. We cannot issue the waiver sooner than 10 days before the start of a class.

How long does the class last?

The class is a minimum of five weeks long. The program consists of 30 hours of classroom instruction; four 1 hour driving lessons and four hours of in-car observation Classes meet three times a week; there are 15 classes each two hours long. In-car instruction is scheduled outside of class time. We encourage you to sign up for your drive lessons with a partner in a two hour block. Each of you would then get one drive and one observation with each two hour appointment.

Will I be able to complete the entire program in five weeks?

You may be able to complete the program within the five weeks if you do not miss any classes and you are able to schedule your drives and observations in a timely fashion. However, most students complete the program in six or seven weeks.

How long do I have to finish the entire program?

You have a total of 180 days from the start date to complete the entire program. this is stare requirement not an arbitrary length of our choosing.

What if I miss a class?

All missed classes must be make up. However, there are several ways for you to make up a missed class. Missing more than four classes may result in being dropped from class. You would then have to enroll in another class requiring a $100 re-enrollment fee.

How do I enroll?

Click on to the location you wish to attend. At the top center of that page click on the   "Student Registration Form". Print out the registration form, fill it out, and mail it to the Port Orchard address on the form. That will reserve a place for you in the class. If a class fills and you have not pre-registered you will be asked to move to the next available class.

Alternately, beginning in January, you may also register online. Simply click on the school nearest you, select the appropriate class schedule, choose the class that's right for you, and press the "Register Now" button. A credit card will be required for this option.

Can I Just walk in and start?

Yes, if there is room in the class you may walk in. However, preference will be given to those who pre-registered.
